Why you should get a Mini Australian Shepherd

Here is why I love Mini Australian Shepherds and why you will too!

I’ve loved dogs my entire life. When I was little, my favorite book to read was a book about AKC Dog Breeds. I used to pick a breed and then transcribe all of the information into a Word document on our big, old family computer. Then, I’d print that page and draw a picture of the dog on it to complete my little project.

My favorite breed was (and still is) the Australian Shepherd! As a kid, I was fascinated by their coat colors and markings - they were beautiful! I used to read the excerpt about them in my book over and over and over again.

My favorite class in school was Biology and when I learned about genetics, my mind went straight to Australian Shepherds. I wanted to learn about how their coat patterns and colors were passed down from parents to offspring. I even did a project and presentation on that topic in a Math class when we were given an assignment when we were learning about probability. I find it so interesting!

So, as soon as I was living on my own and started my first job, I knew I had to get a dog. And of course it had to be an Australian Shepherd! I started doing research about breeders and came across Mini Australian Shepherd breeders (also known as Mini American Shepherds). In that instant something clicked in my head. A miniature-sized aussie would be perfect! All of the personality and beauty that the Australian Shepherd has but in a perfectly sized package - exactly what I needed for apartment living!

And so the research continued - A lot of thought went into the decision to go with this breed to ensure it would fit my lifestyle and preferences!

They are super smart!
Their medium size (~25-35 lbs) is just right
They are an active dog breed that you can hike and run with, but they also love to hang out and cuddle on the couch
They are “Velcro Dogs” - They always want to be by your side
They are great partners for participating in dog agility and other dog sports
They are known for their athleticism and working mentality
And of course, they are absolutely beautiful!!
