Nifty Kitchen Hack - Cork Stoppers for Oil and Vinegar Set

Cork Stopper for your Oil and Vinegar Set!

This little kitchen hack will save you a lot of time and frustration in the long run. With a little ingenuity it can turn an unpleasant kitchen experience into a cool and artsy upgrade. I guarantee once you do this, family and friends will see it and do it too!

The inconvenience that I am referring to is the oil and vinegar set that we all have on our kitchen counters.

When we first get them we think they are fully functional, convenient and classy. But, after a month or so we all know what happens - the spouts on them get dusty and greasy! So, what do you do? You go crazy and clean them, which is nearly impossible. Then once they are clean you start putting plastic wrap on the tips to keep any unwanted house guests (we all come across a house fly every once in a while!) and dust out.

This works for a little while, but it is unsightly and inconvenient. Whenever you want to use the oil or vinegar you have to take off a greasy little piece of plastic, and then have to put it back on when you are done without getting oil everywhere. It’s a mess!

But don’t give up on these yet, there is a solution! Next time you finish a bottle of wine don’t throw the cork out - keep it! You are going to need two corks, one for the oil and one for the vinegar. So go ahead and open another bottle of wine for the sake of this project and your mental health :]

Once you have two corks, you need to find a drill bit that is slightly larger than the spout. Need a drill? You can find a drill like the one pictured above here. Then, drill a hole in the center of the cork (but not all the way through the cork). Do this for both corks.

Now you have yourself a nifty dust and bug guard that will keep your oil and vinegar clean and pristine.

Bonus Hack:

When you want to fill the containers up you don’t need to lay the spout on a plate or napkin anymore - just pop them out and flip them upside down! They will stay balanced as you fill up the container. This simple hack allows the oil and vinegar containers to have a permanent place in the kitchen, not to mention all of your guests at dinner parties are going to think you are a genius!
