For Fluffy Dog Owners:
Living with a furry friend is a wonderful thing, but let me tell you it's not all sunshine and rainbows. As an owner of two Australian Shepherds, I know the curse that comes along with it - fur everywhere!
As any shedding dog owner knows, this is a nightmare! Especially if you are all dressed up for an interview or a date and your furry companion just wants to wish you good luck on your way out the door.
However, this issue is not only yours - it becomes your guests' too! One thing we do to help with this problem is buy couch and furniture covers, which block the hair from embedding itself into the couch and permanently setting up residency. You can find couch covers like mine here. For those of us who have these covers we all know their biggest problem - THEY DON’T STAY UP! I don't know about you, but I hate having the top of the cover fall on my face while watching TV or cuddling with my dogs! If only there was a way to keep the cover from slipping down off the back of the couch!
Luckily, we came up with a very cheap and easy solution to this dilemma. :] Here is what you’ll need to fix it:
Hammer
Rope
Carabiners
Grommets
Grommet Punch
If you are not familiar with grommets, they are commonly found on tarps and are used to tie the tarp down. You can also purchase a grommet kit which includes both the grommets and the grommet punch, which is needed to attach the grommet to the fabric. Carabiners also come in sets and a wide range of styles, but the most common form is the small D-ring clip that many people have their keys attached to.
Moving on to the good stuff~
Here are the step-by-step instructions for creating a way to keep your couch covers in place so that they can do their job!
Using the hammer and grommet punch, install grommets along the top length of the couch cover
Align the couch cover to the position you;d like it to stay in
Clip carabiners onto rope
Tie each end of the rope around the two back feet of the couch so that the couch cover is taught and in your ideal position. The feet of the couch act as an anchor point so that the couch cover will be held in place.
Note: It does not matter how you tie the rope! It can be as neat or messy as you like. If you are going to use this method, it is assumed the couch is against a wall - so no one will see your handiwork or the back of your couch!
Once the rope and knots are in place, your couch cover will stay put! No more lying down and having a flap of fabric fall on your face, and no more constant readjustments to the cover just for it to fall back out of place 5 seconds later!
Bonus Cleanliness Hack:
Cuddle with your furry friends all you want on your secured couch cover! You can more easily vacuum the cover for quick cleanings while it is on the couch because it is ties down and held in place. For deep cleaning, it is super easy to remove - just unclip the carabiners from the cover and throw the covers in the wash! Once the cover is washed and dry, just clip the carabiners back on the grommets and you are good to go!
